Nadi (pronounced Nandi) is Fiji's third largest city and is the main gateway to Fiji. As Fiji's airport town, Nadi is where most visitors hear their first BULA. Nadi's colorful marketplace, located only a few minute's drive from the airport, features yaqona stalls, homemade souvenirs and local culture. The Nadi area boasts numerous hotels and resorts and is a great place to start your trip or use as a base for exploring. Nadi is truly a tourist's town and offers restaurants of every international flavour and curio shops for the passionate shopper. Nadi is also the gateway to the Mamanuca and Yasawa Group where you will find exquisite island resorts as well as budget and affordable ones.
Within the Nadi region you will find the Garden of the sleeping giant established by US actor Raymond Burr, and the finest South Indian temple. The Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple is the largest Hindu Temple in Fiji. It is according to a design which is thousands of years old. From Votualevu town, near Nadi Airport, you can see an extinct volcano. The crater of this volcano is always full of water, but nobody knows how the water gets into the volcano. Around the edge of the crater, the hard lava is covered in marks that look like hand prints. Fijians believe that this place if where the paree (elves and fairies) meet.
