The Coral Coast
Detailed Map Coral Coast
The Coral Coast begins at Momi, approximately 20 kilometres south of Nadi. The paved highway meanders through spectacular scenery featuring Fijian villages, sugar cane fields, coral lagoons and beaches.
Natadola Beach
For the best white sandy beach on the Viti Levu mainland you cannot go past Natadola Beach. Situated 20mins from Nadi at the beginning of the Coral Coast, Natadola Beach is a popular spot for picnics, swimming and horseback riding. Train enthusiasts will enjoy the Coral Coast Railway daytrip to Natadola Beach
Robinson Crusoe Island
On a small coral island just north of Natadola you will find Robinson Crusoe Island (Likuri Island). Robinson Crusoe Island is a popular spot for daytrips from Nadi or the Coral Coast. It has a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere where you can enjoy snorkelling, fishing, dance and a scrumptious lovo feast.
Sigatoka
(pronounced sing-a-TO-ka) Sigatoka township on the banks of the Sigatoka River is the main business centre for the Coral Coast. In the central marketplace, farmers barter and trade their fruit, vegetables and kava. A good spot for souvenir hunters, here you will find a high quality range of handicrafts, home wares, souvenirs, fashion and jewellery.
Sigatoka Sand Dunes
The unique land form of the Sigatoka Sand Dunes are located directly west of the mouth of the Sigatoka River the second largest river in Fiji. The 20 metre high sand dunes cover 5 kilometres of coastline separating the cane fields from the beach. The area was declared as a National Park in 1989 and has a rich ecological and archaeological history. The Visitor Centre displays archaeological skeletons and Lapita pottery excavated from site.Much of the area is unstable however the circular hiking trail crossing the dunes is great for long or short walks and offers excellent views of the coast and vegatation.
Korotogo
8 km to the west of Sigatoka is the town of Korotogo, home to the Kula Bird Park. The scenery changes as the sugar cane plantations are replaced by coconut plantations with a back drop of rainforest beyond. Swimming and snorkelling on this part of the coast are only good at high tide. There are a number of budget and self catering places to stay in Korotogo, as well as the more upmarket Outrigger Hotel.
Korolevu
There are a number of resorts and up market accommodation options dotted along the coastal area around Korolevu. They cater well for those people looking for a place to unwind and soak up the Fijian sun. Take care when swimming along this part of the coast as there can be strong currents.
